SAT Prep

Summer Course(30 hours)

Our summer course provides intensive and thorough coverage of both substantive and strategic SAT preparation, during which time your student will be given ample opportunities to practice his or her new knowledge. Daily homework assignments will be given, with flexible options provided to students with less free time. The small group program is fully customized and designed carefully with the progress of each student in mind; offering private tutoring sessions of no more than three students per instructor and comprised of ten to twelve sessions dependent upon each student’s academic needs and schedule.

This course will be split into two distinct segments: Twenty-three (23) hours of instruction during the summer followed by review sessions totaling seven (7) hours prior to the fall SAT. Courses are taught by Darlington School faculty members and tutors who are experienced in SAT prep.

When your child enrolls in our summer course, he or she will be placed at one of the following course levels, according to performance on the diagnostic SAT exam we provide.

Grades 8-10

This program is designed for younger students looking for a head start on the SAT. Your student will learn basic SAT test-taking techniques and develop his or her understanding of the test material. Those who begin preparation for the SAT at an early age very often prove more successful than those who do not, so this class will no doubt prove valuable to your child as he or she aims for impressive SAT results.

Grades 11-12

Most older high school students have already been introduced to the majority of concepts tested on the SAT. However, they require guidance in order to apply high school knowledge to the standardized test format. This program will focus on developing test-taking strategies while also reinforcing concepts in mathematics, critical reading and writing. In addition, the course will offer your student frequent opportunities to practice in test conditions. Usually, the juniors and seniors in our course are split into two sections: regular and advanced. The advanced students are those who are already achieving strong scores on the SAT.

Course Materials

The Official SAT Study Guide by College Board
This book includes 8 official practice tests from The College Board, the maker of the SATs. It is the only guide on the market that has real SAT questions and is, in our opinion, the best guide with which to practice and prepare for the test. Other companies claim their own proprietary prep material. All students will receive a personal copy of this guide.
Barron's SAT
Barron's guide provides a thorough, straightforward overview of the concepts tested for each of the three sections of the SAT. While we rely on practice tests from the true test makers, we supplement those test questions with comprehensive review of tricky test material. Each student will receive a personal copy of this text.
